摘要
Aim: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common diagnosis in primary health care, which are treated with antibiotics. The diagnosis of UTI is suggested by clinical findings (dysuria, pollakiuria) and confirmed by microbiological examination of urine. The presence of pathogenic bacteria requires the immediate initiation of therapy in accordance with the results of the antibiogram. Management can be complicated by the increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistant strains. Material and methods: Microbial resistance and the etiology of bacterial pathogens was assessed among the UTI patients admitted to the "Sf. Parascheva" Infectious Diseases Hospital in Iasi, Romania. Results: The most frequent cause was gram-negative bacteria (GNB). Strains of Enterococcus spp and Candida spp have also been isolated. A percentage of 7.7% of the strains were beta-lactamase releasing. Regarding the antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of bacterial strains, we found increased GNB resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics. Conclusions: The results showed that Escherichia coli strains were the most frequently detected, followed by Pseudomonas, Enterococcus, Enterobacter species in a lower percentage. Treatment of UTI should be performed according to the results of the antibiogram, and for a sufficient period of time in order to prevent pandrug-resistant bacteria.
