This article addresses, from a socio-critical perspective, the relationship between literature, history and society in order to approach the phenomenon of murder-for-hire in Colombia from the novel Our Lady of the Assassins by Fernando Vallejo. To this end, three main sections are presented. First, an overview of the phenomenon known as "the violence" in Colombia; second, a brief explanation of the concept of sociocriticism as a study method; and third, an analysis of the novel.
