Management and Practice of Island Ecological Restoration in China

Chinese government has launched more than 70 islands restoration projects by 2013. This article expounded the connotation and objects of island ecological restoration in China in a summary of the practice of island ecological restoration projects. The article first introduced the management system of island ecological restoration projects, including project planning, project application, project supervision and project acceptance. Then, the main techniques involving island- mainland vegetation restoration, shoreline restoration, island fresh water resources protection and utilization and special ecosystem restoration were summarized, combining three typical cases in island ecosystem restoration. At last, the article pointed out the current problems in the practice of island ecological restoration in China. Three specific suggestions were put forward: to build an island ecosystem restoration theory system; to restore relying on natural intervention and to monitor and evaluate regularly afterwards; to establish and improve the mechanism of later supervision and management.
