A deep search for brown dwarfs in the Praesepe open cluster

摘要：
We present the results of a deep CCD survey of an area of about 800 square: arcminutes in the Praesepe open cluster. We have detected a faint, red object with I similar to 21, R - I similar to 2.5, which follow up infrared photometry and low-resolution spectroscopy confirm as a M8.5-M9 type dwarf. This is the faintest and coolest object (I - K similar to 4.6) in Praesepe whose spectrum has been obtained to date. We estimate a mass of 0.070 +/- 0.005M., which makes this object the best brown dwarf candidate so far identified in the cluster.
