Design of a Reconfigurable Leaky-Wave Antenna for Continuous Beam Steering

摘要
A reconfigurable leaky-wave antenna (LWA) with 360 continuous phase shift is proposed for beam steering at fixed frequency. The structure includes a 1x8 patch array, a microstrip transmission line, and 8 phase shifters. Each phase shifter cascades 2 varactors with 2 PIN diodes. The varactors provide 180 degrees continuous phase shift, while the PIN diodes can switch the phase in 0 degrees/180 degrees states. By properly control the biasing voltage, a full 360 degrees continuous phase shift can be produced. The peak gain of the array is 13.9 dBi. A wide beam steering ranged from -57 degrees to 54 degrees is achieved within 3 dB gain variation.
