A Survey of Real-Time Scheduling on Multiprocessor Systems

Real-time system scheduling draws a lot of attention in the past half-century. In this survey, we give a general introduction to real-time scheduling on multiprocessor systems. Basic concepts, terms, and definitions are explained. We describe a series of classic results published several decades ago that still have a wide impact on academia today, and also novel and inspiring results in recent years. These results cover global, partition, and hybrid scheduling approaches. Lately, more and more works focus on scheduling special task models like AVR tasks, MC tasks, and so on, which will also be introduced in this survey. We discuss research directions that are potentially promising in real-time scheduling on multiprocessor systems to conclude this survey.
