Modern single-ended fault location in HVDC systems based on fault transients

摘要
This paper presents a single-ended method for fault location in HVDC segmented transmission line consisted of two segments, overhead and cable. The challenge for fault location is to use one terminal measurement data without using communication channel and synchronization links between measurements of two terminals. The proposed method is based on extracting traveling wave impulses from measured transients and matching them with referenced time schemes obtained using Bewley's lattice diagrams crated on the basis of parameters of segmented line. Generated Bewley's diagrams are treated as data base of fault finger prints. The aim function is to achieve the best matching of finger print and extracted measured transients. Presented method is investigated using real measurements of Baltic Sweden-Germany HVDC power transmission link during staged fault tests and decaying fault. Obtained results shows that proposed method is capable for locating the faults and introduce new solution for single-ended technique in segmented HVDC transmission lines.
