Both Chinese and American scholars are showing their increasing interest in Gary Snyder's poetry. There are three main reasons. First, Chinese scholars favor his poetic thoughts which are greatly influenced by Chinese traditional cultures. Second, American scholars are deeply attracted by the ecological meanings and postmodernist artistic approach drawn on in his poetic writings. Third, the increasingly prosperous intercultural communication makes both Chinese and American scholars begin to learn from and facilitate each other in their research on Snyder, which deepens the connotation of the research on Gary Snyder's poetry. This paper analyses the thread of the research status of Gary Snyder's poetry at home and abroad from the diachronic and synchronic viewpoints, in aim to provide Chinese and American readers with a clear illustration of the research on Snyder and manage to put forward some feasible assumptions and suggestions for future study.
