Consideration about augmentin efficacy in the treatment of the head and neck oncology

The authors made a retrospective study about the efficacy of AUGMENTIN treatment produced by SmithKline Beecham firm among 72 patients with head and. neck cancer, solved by surgery and radiochemotherapy. Bacteriological samples were taken to know the etiology of the surgical wound infection or of tl-le upper respiratory and digestive mucosa. 30 patients were treated by radiochemotherapy and 42 by surgery followed or not by radiotherapy. The patients received AUGMENTIN Bis 2g/day or AUGMENTIN inj. 1,2g/3 times/day combined with METRONIDAZOL 2g/day, 3 days before and ii days after surgery and also the same dose was applied in the treatment of title radioepithelita or the infection of the tumour. Duration of operation, type of surgery and individual factors were selected as predictor variables of infections. Therefore, we can say that AUGMENTIN is possible to be used as the fil st choice antibiotic in the treatment of oncological diseases.
