Kinetics and mechanism of Ag (I) catalysis in oxidation of Bismark brown by peroxydisulphate ion

摘要
The oxidation kinetics of an azo dye Bismark brown by peroxydisulphate ion (S2O82-) catalyzed by silver (I) was carried out in acidic media. The rate is independent of the concentration of Bismark brown but it is first order both with respect to the concentration of S2O82- and Ag (I). Increase in ionic strength decreases the rate. The reaction mixture initiates vinyl polymerization. Activation parameters have been evaluated from the Arrhenius plot. The results are discussed in terms of a mechanism in which the reaction proceeds via a radical chain mechanism.
