"VIRGIL AND DANTE OF "THE ISLAND OF PENGUINS" BY A. FRANCE": FROM THE LESSONS OF PASCOLI 1908-1909

This paper is focused on the relationship, found out by Pascoli, between Dante's Inferno and the descent ad inferos of Marbode in the novel of Anatole France L'Ile des Pingouins. This relationship is certified by unpublished autographs discovered in the Archive of Casa Pascoli in Castelvecchio -, that confirm the presence of this author in some university lessons which Pascoli held in Bologna between 1908 and 1909. This mention of France is an unicum in Pascoli's studies, as well as the attention paid to one of France's novels. Pascoli's lessons on France are completely published according to the modern philology, and with the comparison of excerpts of France's Novel.
