Colonic injury and intraspinal penetration from high-pressure molten plastic injection: Case report

The potential for high-pressure injection injuries in industrial nations is great, but fortunately, they occur infrequently. This is most likely the result of preventive measures such as the use of protective guards. When injuries of this type occur, management typically involves local tissue debridement and removal of the injected material. When the injected material involves the nervous system, however, the risks and benefits of removal of the material must be considered. Also the use of systemic steroids may have a beneficial effect by attenuating local inflammatory tissue reaction.
