Using complex event processing for smarter decision-making

One of the ironies of modem business is that while technology has allowed access to more data in seconds, the data does not automatically translate to smarter decision-making. Complex Event Processing (CEP) systems continuously filter real-time data streams in search of defined event patterns, then set off alerts to automate a follow-on process, such as taking a corrective action. This paper will explore the role of emerging CEP technology in analyzing business activities and solving problems. Seeing increasing research in areas such as immigration control for enhanced national security, CEP represents a fundamental shift in the way organizations filter and act upon events.
