摘要
The present investigation deals with the study on production, characterization of milkscum biodiesel followed by performance and emission characteristics analysis of a CI engine fuelled with milk scum biodiesel blends. The investigation was carried out in three stages, characterization of milk scum oil to examine its reasonableness as feedstock for biodiesel production and utilization as an alternative fuel for CI engines. The fuel properties of biodiesel synthesized from milk scum oil were found to be within the specified ASTM D6751 standards. The engine performance characteristics such as brake thermal efficiency decreased by 18.2%, brake specific energy consumption (BSEC) is increased by 18.2% by comparing B60 blend with Diesel. Emission characteristics such as Carbon monoxide (CO) reduced by 50% and unburnt hydrocarbons (UBHC) reduced by 6.8% whereas the NOx emission was increased by 33.4% at 2.7 kW load. From the experimental results discovered that milk scum biodiesel could be a promising elective fuel with desirable properties with better performance and emission characteristics.
