Barrier precautions, isolation protocols, and personal hygiene in veterinary hospitals

Prevention of direct and indirect transmission of potential pathogens between equine patients and from patients to veterinary personnel is an important aspect of the infection control program. The use of appropriate barrier precautions, personal hygiene, and isolation is important. In particular, hand hygiene and isolation of potentially infectious animals are critical for the prevention of nosocomial and zoonotic diseases. These factors, and means to ensure compliance by all personnel, should be an integral part of any infection control program.
