摘要
There has been little examination of the effects of gender on perceptions of politicians outside of the United States. In this research note we test the generalizability of Americans' gender stereotypes in a non-western nation. Through an experiment, we test for Kazakhstani's use of gender to evaluate politicians. Generally, we find that women Kazakhstani politicians are perceived more negatively than men. The woman politician in our experiment is perceived to be less competent than the man in virtually every policy area, foreign, economic and social. While in the U.S. women are seen as more honest than men, in our experiment there were no gender based differences in the perceptions of the politician's ability to maintain honesty.
