Application of a diffusion-inertia model for three-dimensional numerical simulation of solid fuel combustion in furnace chambers

The paper is aimed at development and application of a diffusion-inertia model for prediction of momentum, heat and mass transfer, and combustion in particle-laden turbulent flows. A principal peculiarity of the model developed consists in modeling particle transport and size spectrum evolution. This model is valid for two-phase flows with relatively small particles, namely when the ratio of the particle relaxation time to the integral time scale of turbulence is less than unity, and can be taken into account the processes connected with the particle size spectrum evolution due to combustion. The model under development has been applied to predict the combustion of coal in a industrial boiler furnace P-67, and the results obtained have been compared with the ones derived on the basis of a conventional diffusion model.
