Nutrition of the elderly

In mad cases an adequate nutrition, adapted to physiological changes in the old age, has positive effects on physical power and brain capacity. But actually the greater part of the elderly does not practise on adequate and healthy nutrition. Severe malnutrition and locks of vitamins and minerals are a special problem of the very old age and of geriatric patients. Recommendations for the intake of energy and nutrients and instructions of food choice ore given in order to revise an adequate nutrition of the elderly. In severe situations of malnutrition nutrient supplements, drinks enriched with high dosage of nutrients, tube or parenteral feeding ore indicated.
