On the synthesis and properties of bulk ternary Cr2AlC ceramics

摘要
Dense bulk Cr2AlC was synthesized by hot-pressing of Cr, Cr3C2 and Al powders as starting materials. The phase composition was determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), the microstructures of the samples were observed with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and thermal, electrical as well as the mechanical properties at and above room temperature were determined. The results showed that Cr2AlC grains have columnar and plate-like shapes, and that it is a good electrical and thermal conductor.
