Exploring Technical and Economic Feasibility of a Stand-Alone Solar PV Based DC Distribution System Over AC for Use in Houses

STANDALONE Photovoltaic (PV) systems are designed and sized to supply certain AC and/or DC electrical loads. This paper explores the technical and economic feasibility of supplying electrical power to homes/houses using DC voltage mains within the house. Theoretical calculations are presented to demonstrate the advantage of DC system over AC system with PV on sustainable rural/isolated development. The results show that direct utilization of DC power is beneficial in terms of cost is minimum by around 4 % of solar module, 35 % of Inverter and 9% overall system cost. DC distribution system offers power saving to around 3.5 % as compared to traditional AC system. Our analysis suggests that the LCOE reduces by INR 1.0 which is 13.4 % overall as compared to that of AC system.
