Effect of lidocaine on serum levels of cytokines IL-1, IL-6 and IL-10 during peridural and subdural blocking in obstetric patients.

The immune system is related with nervous and endocrine systems by cytokines, neurotransmitters and hormones through axis HPA. Opiates, neurotransmitters and neuropeptides receptors have been found on immune cells. The stress has direct influence on HPA; the surgical events such as delivery and anesthesia produce stress. The local anesthetics interfere on the nervous and endocrine systems, however there is nothing known about the immune system. Here we determinate the lidocaine effect on seric concentration of IL-1(beta), IL-6 and IL-10 in obstetric patients submit epidural (EDB) and subdural (SDB) blockade. In this work we observed that the lidocaine had an influence on cytokines serum levels, probably according the pathway of drug administration. The EDB had a minor effect than SDB on cytokine levels.
