Cels Gomis (1912-2000) is still completely unknown in the field of artistic and cultural relations between Spain and Japan. For this reason, this study aims to unveil his biography and one his passions: Japanese folk art collecting. Gomis interests in kokeshi dolls, toys, ceramics and Otsu-e paintings went beyond a mere temporary hobby since they favored the diffusion of the mingei movement in Catalonia and knowledge of Japanese folk art in general among artists such as Eudald Serra and Joan Miro.
