The transmission reach attainable for single-polarization and polarization-multiplexed 10 Gbaud Star 16QAM systems with coherent detection is experimentally investigated for the first time and compared to 8PSK and QPSK performance at the same symbol rate. (C) 2009 Optical Society of America
