摘要
Polymeric coatings are used on steel to prevent corrosion. However, typically the scratch and wear resistance of the coatings is poor. We know from electrochemistry that a crack in a coating results in that location in localized corrosion - much worse than on an uncoated surface. With this situation in mind, we have used a commercial epoxy coating on mild steel - but we have added a fluoropolymer and in turn micropowders of four metals. We have also used two curing agents for the epoxy, one for 30 degrees C and the other for 80 degrees C. We have determined dynamic friction and wear for both temperatures. At the lower temperature there is a decrease in friction and wear, at the higher temperature there is an increase. Reasons for these findings are discussed.
