THE PURPOSES OF this paper are to: First, review the efforts that others have made to develop a research policy agenda for the field of child abuse and neglect; second, review briefly some of the medical research directions in child sexual abuse; third, suggest my own views of potential future research areas in child sexual abuse for us as physicians and other health care professionals; and finally, suggest a policy infrastructure that will probably be needed if anything that will be discussed during this conference will have a future.
