Land consolidation in the Czech Republic is perceived as a multidimensional instrument for landscape planning. It is primarily used for plot re-allocation (exchange of land plots among owners); however it also fulfills additional important roles such as improving transport infrastructure, water management and nature protection. During the land consolidation process, which lasts on average 4-6 years, a detailed consolidation plan of common facilities and a new digital cadastral map is created. This paper presents the concepts and benefits of standardization, which lead to the creation of a geoportal. In 2010, the Technical Standard of Detailed Land Consolidation Plan was published, which unifies the content and visualization of the plan. Furthermore, a new exchange format for land consolidation data is being developed since 2011. The exchange format is an open standard based on XML, which bridges the gap between drafting software (CAD) and geographic information systems (GIS). Data in this format can be consolidated within a GIS database and published through a geoportal. The aim of the geoportal is to bring all data in one place, where they are easy to find, providing broader regional context for landscape development including rural-urban linkages. The geoportal will provide data to surveyors, planners, central and local authorities, and other interested subjects. The geoportal will also allow internal access to employees of the State Land Office, showing statistical and managerial reports. One important objective of the implementation of the geoportal, is to improve information and communication between all participants of the process, i.e. surveyors, local citizens, farmers, community authorities and the State Land Office.
