Is comorbidity a psychological science?

This commentary questions the current rush to reify comorbidity that a medical disease lexicon encourages. The emphasis on comorbidities has proceeded without clear evidence that true diseases are thereby identified. Its consequence is an obscuring of historical, sociopolitical, and environmental considerations that play a significant role in bringing comorbidities about. Comorbidities can in this way become in part a product of policy decisions made by professionals. We encourage psychologists to question these trends.
