Simulation of pedestrian flows for traffic control systems

摘要
In the last years various systems have been developed for the control, planning and prediction of traffic of persons and vehicles, in particular under security aspects. Going beyond pure counting and statistical models, approaches have been found to be very adequate and accurate which are based on wellknown concepts originally developed in very different research areas, namely continuum mechanics and computer science. In the present paper, we outline two recent improvements of models of this kind: we present two new models for a cellular automata and a continuum mechanical approach for the description of pedestrain flow. Both kind of approaches promise a significant improvement in the development of models for a flexible and reliable description and prediction of traffic flow.
