This paper proposes a general approach to support supply chain re-engineering by modeling the cross-dock technique. Attention is focused on the development time issues and a fast development approach based on the construction of rough simulation models devoted to high-level modeling is proposed The model was implemented using a new generation, first-level simulation tool and provides a very interesting overview of the potential of such packages. The example was rested on a case study generating interesting results both in terms of simulation development as well as the impact of experimental results.
