Effect of Sm-Co layer thickness on magnetic properties of crystallized Sm-Co/Cr films

Sm-Co/Cr film was prepared with substrate heating and the dependence of crystal structure and magnetic properties on the Sm-Co layer thickness was studied. The x-ray diffraction diagram indicated that the Sm-Co layer was crystallized by the substrate heating. The coercivity was higher than 3 kOe even though the thickness of the Sm-Co layer was as thin as 2.5 nm. It was found that the substrate heating during deposition was effective to prepare the films with higher coercivity at ultrathin Sm-Co layer. (C) 2003 American Institute of Physics.
