Density and FTIR Study of Fe2O3 - V2O5 - Na2O B2O3 Dilute Magnetic Glasses

摘要
Dilute magnetic glasses with composition xFe(2)O(3) - (30-x) V2O5 - 30Na(2)O - 40B(2)O(3) (x = 0,5, 10 and 15.0mol%) have been prepared by conventional melt - quenching technique. Their structural and physical properties were investigated by X- ray diffraction, density measurement and Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) technique.The density (D) has been found to increase from 2.42g/cc to 2.72g/ccand molar volume has been found to decrease from 56.43cc/mol to 49.46cc/mol. Theoretical optical basicity has been calculated using the concept given by Duffy and Ingram and is found to decrease from 0.902 to 0.899 which shows increase in the covalence nature of oxygen as we replace the V2O5 content with Fe2O3. FTIRspectroscopy has been carried out in the mid - IR region (400-1600cm(-1))and observed bands show the absence of boroxol ring. The presence of absorption bands corresponding to the combined contributions of tri and tetra borate stretching vibrations are seen.
