The Challenges of the Long-Term Development of Romania: The Dilemmas of Convergence Versus Divergence

The paper analyses the main macro aspects of Romanian economic evolution during the post-accession period of 2007 2014 in comparison with the pre-accession period of 2001 2006 and the targets established by the EU Strategy 2020 under the requirement of reaching "a smart, sustainable and inclusive society". Evaluating to what extent Romania and other EU member-countries consider their capabilities to reach the strategic targets for the year 2020 we present several aspects of economic efficiency convergence/divergence in Romania vis-a-vis the tendencies at the EU average level.
