The effects of Ar and Ar + 4%H-2 annealing environments on the microstructure and magnetic properties of the FePt-TiO2 and CoPt-TiO2 nanocomposite films were investigated. Results showed that the annealing environments affect the phase transformations of L1(0)-FePt and L1(0)-CoPt alloys greatly. The Ar + 4%H-2 significantly improved the L1(0)-ordering of FePt-TiO2 and CoPt-TiO2 nanocomposites compared to the Ar. The CoPt-TiO2 nanocomposite exhibited better L1(0)-ordering and larger coercivity than those of FePt-TiO2 due to the better oxidation resistance. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
