摘要
Energy storage has long been recognized as a critical component of potential renewable energy (RE) systems. Recent research on the use of energy storage to achieve high RE adoption has garnered increased interest. This article provides an in-depth review of hybrid solar-wind power supply schemes that use pumped hydro storage (PHS). Additionally, it addresses PHS's current position, its total installed power, potential studies, and technological challenges associated with its usage in Renewable Energy based systems. The analysis presented in this article discusses the fiscal, environmental, and technological dimensions of solar-wind-Pump Hydro Storage systems that have been addressed in the past decade. PHS technology has re-emerged as a technologically and economically viable alternative, as evidenced by the literature. Although the integration of reversible pump turbine machines has improved the versatility, response time, and efficiency of PHS, hybridizing PHS with other storages will expand the variety of services and overall system reliability, especially where RE systems are off-grid. This project would benefit researchers by allowing them to conduct research on Renewable Energy based Pump Hydro System structures in the areas of modelling and technological-economic optimization. Hybrid storage, such as the PHS-battery, is an evolving choice for compensating for each other's shortcomings and would be an exciting area of potential research.
