Effectiveness of Transformational Leadership in Chinese Governmental Organization

摘要
As a new-style leadership, transformational leadership has been proved to be effective in the enterprise management. According to a thought called as New Public Administration emerging in the western recently, many methods of enterprise management can be successfully applied in the public sectors. However, there are no evidences whether transformational leadership is also effective in the public sectors. This paper tested the effectiveness of transformational leadership in Chinese governmental organization. By analyzing the sample of 284 employees in governmental organization, results showed that transformational leadership construct has three dimensions, which consist of charisma, intellectual stimulation and inspiration motivation, and individualized consideration. It also was found that each dimension has positive and significant effects on leadership effectiveness, except that individualized consideration's effect on service satisfaction. Finally, some suggestions on governmental administration practices have been discussed.
