The article discusses the question of genesis of the term "phenomenology of religion". In 1887, P.-D. Chantepie de la Saussaye for the first time used the term "phenomenology of religion". E. Lehmann in 1910 finally introduced it to religious studies as a program of classification of religious phenomena. Therefore, in the first quarter of the twentieth century there were two parallel forms of phenomenology: the philosophical phenomenology and the phenomenology of religion. Phenomenology of religion was independent of the philosophical theory, its goal was the description and classification of religious phenomena, this method was crucial to the works of P.D. Chantepie de la Saussaye, E. Lehmann, C. Tiele, W.B. Kristensen, G. van der Leeuw, F. Heiler. On the example of F. Heiler the question of the theoretical possibility of a hidden influence of the philosophical phenomenology on the phenomenology of religion is discussed. In conclusion, it is argued that two theories has fundamental difference: the philosophical phenomenology is grounded on consciousness, whereas phenomenology of religion is grounded on being.
