Disorders of the synostosis and the changes in the concentration of magnesium in the serum

In 29 patients (15 men and 14 women) aged 23 to 72 years with synostosis disturbances we estimated the magnesium concentration in the serum. A study of the concentration of that element was carried out using flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The results obtained were referred to the values of the magnesemia registered in control group made up of patients in whom synostosis occurred without disorders. It was found that synostosis disturbances were associated with a statistically significant decrease of the magnesemia in comparison with the control group. A particularly deep hypomagnesemia developed in patients with synostosis disorders of the long bones.
