THE IMPACT OF THE ECONOMIC CRISIS ON THE UNEMPLOYMENT AND THE SOCIAL PROBLEMS IT GENERATES IN ROMANIA

The present case study, "Social problems generated by the existence of unemployment in Romania" has for main aim to highlight the consequences of the unemployment, a phenomenon of macroeconomic imbalance, on people. From the economic viewpoint, unemployment is an imbalance of the human resources market given by a low labor force request. In the period 2000-2008, Romania recorded normal values of the unemployment rate, and it was possible to keep this phenomenon and its consequences under control. Moreover, the Romanian economy had an accelerated development given the business environment stability, the modern structures that motivated the companies to work harder and the significant investitional input, drawn in by the favorable environment. Yet, in 2009 the unemployment rose to unprecedented values on the background of the world economic recession. This negative economic situation affects the population and generates significant social problems: family conflicts, poverty, violence, school abandonment, emigration, low birth rate, physical and psychological diseases and, at the same time, degradation in point of experience and competence, work conflicts, increased criminal rate. The measures meant to control the unemployment issue can solve, at least theorethically, this economic crisis. But, for clear results, we need both the active contribution of the State institutions and the awareness of the population concerning the existing situation.
