ACADEMIC MOTIVATION FOR THE CHOICE OF RESEARCH TOPICS IN DANCE STUDENTS

This article is oriented to the analysis of the academic motivation for the choice of research topics in students of the traditional dance career in Peru. It starts from the theory of self-determination to know the factors that influence the interests of students. It is a qualitative study with the case study method, with a sample of students in the last year of studies from an art school who are conducting their research for the purpose of graduation. The instruments used were: questionnaire, semi-structured interview and documentary analysis. As the results, it was obtained that the intrinsic academic motivation factors linked to significant childhood experiences, sentimental and family ties are those that prevail with respect to the extrinsic academic motivation generated by parents and family members, as well as the dance group, the friends and recognition. Likewise, the highest percentage of the investigations is focused on the Andean region, which reflects the strong cultural identity of the students with their family roots and the variety of dances that are presented in this part of Peru. A high motivation and proactive attitude towards research was revealed, seen as a complement to his artistic activity and a way to deepen his knowledge.
