Wideband Coplanar Waveguide-Fed Slot Antenna Array with Via-Wall Structure

A wideband slot antenna array with via-wall structure is proposed and investigated. Two array arms, with each arm formed by several in-line series elements with square geometry, are positioned symmetrically with respect to the feeding point where a coplanar waveguide is used as the feeding line. Via-wall structure is utilized in edges of the slot elements and the coplanar waveguide, which is favorable for wideband design and is different from the conventional uniplanar realization of coplanar waveguide and slotline. Simulated results show that the proposed two-element antenna array presents a 10 dB impedance bandwidth of 27% around 3.4 GHz, with a maximum realized gain of about 7.3 dBi in the operating frequency range. A four-element slot antenna array is also given to provide more insight into this design scheme.
