摘要
An experimental procedure is described for the production of foot abscess in sheep that mimics the natural disease. Lesions were produced by the intradermal inoculation of suspensions of Fusobacterium necrophorum biotype AB containing from 5X10(2) to 5x10(8) bacteria, into interdigital skin devitalised by freezing with liquid nitrogen. A dose of 5 X 10(5) bacteria induced the development of foot abscess in 3 of 4 and 8 of 8 inoculated feet. It was found that to produce foot abscess in devitalised tissue required between 10(3) and 10(6) fewer bacteria than were necessary to produce similar lesions in healthy tissue.
