The warfarin (coumarin)-embryopathy - a re-emergence of this syndrome? A case report

This is a case report of a 3210 g girl infant born with a nasal hypoplasia as a sign of the fetal (coumarin)warfarin-syndrome. Her mother - a 30-years-old II. gravida with a past history of thrombosis - had received Phenprocoumon (Falithrom(R)) [3 - 4,5 mg daily] for post-thrombose-prophylaxis during pregnancy up to the 23rd week of gestation. Teratogens like the (oral anticoagulans) Phenprocoumon may produce that disease, therefore Coumarin (Warfarin) should not be used in pregnancy, furthermore, women should be advised to take precautions against conception while taking that pharmacon.
