摘要
Clouds have a considerable influence on Earth's hydrological cycle, weather and climate. Many cloud processes are currently not understood and therefore precipitation forecasting as well as climate modelling are hampered. Ice particles play a significant role for the formation of precipitation in mid latitudes. Here we give an overview on how ice particles are formed in mixed-phase clouds and why they influence precipitation. We report some recent findings on the chemical nature of ice nuclei on which ice forms heterogeneously. The potential influence of anthropogenic emissions on ice nuclei, for example, via lead emissions is discussed.
