Predissociation of H-2 in the Rydberg states

The predissociation of H-2 in the 3p pi D-1 Pi(u)(+), 4p sigma D-1 Pi(u)(+), and 4p sigma B ''(1) Sigma(u)(+), and 4p pi D'(1) Pi(u)(+) state by the lower-lying 3p sigma B-1 Sigma(u)(+) and 2p pi C-1 Pi(u)(+) states is studied using the multichannel quantum defect theory, combined with the frame transformation and the noniterative eigenchannel R-matrix method. The predissociation line positions and widths are evaluated for the 3p pi D-1 Pi(u)(+) (v=3), 4p sigma B ''(1) Sigma(u)(+) (v=1,2), and 4p pi D'(1) Pi(u)(+) (v=1) levels. The complicated rovibrational coupling responsible for the predissociation is accounted for in a unified way. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.
