摘要
Additive manufacturing (AM) is a crosscutting manufacturing technology that can beneficially impact total ownership cost, operational availability, and warfighter readiness. AM has already been implemented in naval facilities with notable successes in the areas of rapid fabrication, legacy part development and repair, custom, tooling, rapid prototyping, and novel designs. Though AM has afforded many positive successes in naval applications, additional technology development in areas such as the production of quality metal parts and rapid qualification are needed to fully capture the manufacturing advantages to the warfighter that AM offers.
