A reading of Christian baptism from Pentecost Churches in the periphery of Vitoria-ES

This article uses data collected from a field survey conducted in the outskirts of Vitoria, capital of Espirito Santo (Brazil), at the end of 2015. 41 temples were mapped on an avenue that crosses the main periphery of the city, most of them temples of Pentecostal churches. The purpose of the text was to ask leaders and members of these churches about Christian baptism and to analyze how this perception would be in line with the Western Christian tradition. Thirteen interviews were carried out in six Pentecostal temples that pointed to the close relationship of these groups to the general notion of Christian baptism, and at the same time highlighted the specificities of Pentecostal religiosity in the perception of this practice. Sampling is not representative of Pentecostalism in the region. It only serves to signal some important aspects regarding Pentecostalism in the outskirts.
