Enforcement of relevant building control provisions for building maintenance-related matters in Singapore

This paper focuses on addressing two main concerns-firstly it identifies the existing statutory requirement in building control provisions on building maintenance related matters and secondly the implementation of the provisions in Singapore building industry. This paper briefly presents a review of the relevant local statutory. requirement in building maintenance-related matters as imposed by Singapore Building Control Act. The paper discusses the salient features of the Act and summarizes them into an easily understandable way for comprehension. The study highlighted some key provisions and characteristically noted that this statutory framework should provide an effective second line of defence that help the industry in picking up early signs of poor maintenance and pre-empt any severe deterioration of building safety.
