Chondrosarcoma of the hand: radiologic evaluation at early stage

We present a case of chondrosarcoma originating from the second metacarpal bone, whose radiograph taken by chance 2 years prior to his admission revealed the initial manifestation of the tumor. Radiological examination showed erosion of the shaft of the second metacarpal bone with formation of an extraosseous soft tissue mass. Retrospectively, the patient underwent radiological assessment of the right hand 2 years prior to this admission. The radiograph demonstrated osteolytic change, expansion of the shaft, and thickening cortex of the 2nd metacarpal bone. These radiographs proved the necessity of meticulous scrutiny of abnormal but asymptomatic radiological results.
