摘要
The fibre of stinging nettle is remarkable for its high tensile strength, fineness and the fact that its cell walls are unlignified. Latest investigations on the technical characteristics of nettle fibres show that nettle fibres have the potential to replace glass fibres as reinforcement fibre in some application areas for polymer matrix composites (FMC's). Advantages of nettle fibres are low specific weight, high strength and good elasticity module. First trials show an easy mechanical decortation of the bark from the woody core. In this study biological and argronomical data of different, selected clones of fibre nettle (e.g. fibre yield per ha) are presented to evaluate possibilities of using fibre nettle as an industrial fibre crop for composites.
