ECDOTICS, INTERPRETATION AND SOURCES: EDITING DIEGO DE VALERA'S SALMOS PENITENCIALES

The Salmos penitenciales of Diego de Valera comprise a long poem found in the cancionero SA10a. Since it is the only extant version of this poem, it is difficult to detect any errors or trivializations that would be inferred from comparing manuscripts. However, the poem presents textual cruces of great interest for whose solution the Vulgate has proven useful. The biblical source of Valera's poem, even if subjected to rewriting in the manner of courtly literature, has therefore shown itself to be an important tool for editing the Castilian text.
